OUR MISSION

Hoops By The River Inc. is committed to empowering young people and strengthening communities by creating meaningful opportunities through sports, education, mentorship, leadership development, workforce preparation and community engagement.

Founded in East Harlem, our mission is rooted in the belief that every young person deserves access to positive environments, caring mentors, educational resources and opportunities that allow them to discover their potential. While basketball has always been at the foundation of Hoops By The River, our purpose extends far beyond the court. We use sports as a powerful tool to connect with young people, build relationships, teach discipline and teamwork, and open the door to opportunities that can positively influence their lives.

We are committed to supporting the whole young person. Through athletic programs, educational enrichment, mentorship, leadership development, youth employment and community-based initiatives, we work to provide young people with the confidence, knowledge, experiences and life skills they need to succeed. Our goal is not simply to develop better athletes, but to help develop responsible leaders, productive young adults and future contributors to their communities.

Hoops By The River also believes that lasting youth development requires strong families and strong communities. We strive to create programs and events that bring young people, parents, mentors, educators, community organizations and local leaders together. By building meaningful partnerships and creating safe, welcoming spaces, we aim to strengthen the connection between young people and the community around them.

As we continue to grow, our mission includes expanding access to opportunities that prepare young people for life beyond school and sports. Through career exposure, workforce development, employment opportunities, creative programs and practical life experiences, we want young people to see possibilities for their futures and have the tools and support necessary to pursue them.

Our long-term vision is to establish a permanent Hoops By The River Sports & Educational Center in East Harlem—a year-round home where athletics, education, mentorship, career development and community programming can exist together. The center represents our commitment to building something that can serve not only the young people of today, but families and generations still to come.

At Hoops By The River, success is not measured only by championships, trophies or what happens on the basketball court. Success is measured by the opportunities we create, the young people we inspire, the families we support and the positive impact we leave within our community.
